I personally think Ubuntu 10.4 is the best one out there. I did not really fall in love with KDE. I quickly went back to GNOME. I think its one of the most straightforward distributions out there.

Hi Pedro, interesting considerations about the cloud computing reality. I understand cloud computing offers two values why companies will pay for it: The instantaneous availability and the "no limited" scalability. This allow to a company to adjust the budget of investments on IT by increasing a variable costs structure. So, from my point of view, cloud computing takes sense only for a low percentage of applications with unpredictable peaks of workload. Excellent article, please continues posting this kind of information!

Well on the meanwhile I discovered what was lagging on the system, it wasn't KDE 4.3 (svn updates) or the new kernel 2.6.31. It was google desktop that wasn't working right...
Cheers,
Pedro

Hi Mario,
About the performance of sshfs it's similar to the one of scp, usually I use it only to help me maintain my systems, but in the end it's not as fast as NFS or SMB, but the usage makes it really helpfull. There is a little overhead with the encriptation and a bigger one if you use compression, but you'll gain speed on slower links. If you are using sshfs with anything equal or above 100MB/s I recomend turning compression off. With the latest processors you won't notice much processor usage. But it's still a bit slower than NFS or SMB.
Cheers,
Pedro Oliveira
